Rising dengue cases set off alarm bells

As many as 37 new dengue virus cases were confirmed in the provincial metropolis on Friday. According to Health department sources, dengue larvae were found at 1,185 locations in the past 24 hours, with multiple patients under treatment in different hospitals of the city.

Various squads conducted surveillance at indoor and outdoor locations to detect dengue larvae during the last 24 hours and destroyed larvae at 1,185 locations in Punjab. Sources said that on Friday, 37 new patients of dengue fever were reported in Lahore. Moreover, 2,678 beds have been allocated for dengue patients in hospitals across Punjab, the Health department said.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lahore Rafia Haider, Additional Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners are continuously performing spot checks to monitor the performance of dengue teams in the wake of increasing cases after the rains. The inspection of 5,000 locations would be ensured on a daily basis, she said.

Meanwhile, in a statement, DC Haider announced that dengue surveillance would be increased and tasked all town officers to meet the set targets on a daily basis. She vowed to monitor various areas in the city with swift and strict
